Abstract
A case-control study of 1358 pregnant and nonpregnant women with and without symptoms of a lower genital tract infection were investigated for evidence of venereal disease. The prevalence of gonorrhea, Trichomonas and Candida in pregnancy was 15.0%, 20.6% and 41.3%, respectively, while the equivalent percentages in the nonpregnant women varied from 16.5% to 21.6%, 2.4% to 22.8% and 33.3% to 39.3%. However, these differences are not statistically significant. The implications of the findings are discussed and a screening program suggested.Entities:
