Unusual virus produced by cultured cells from a patient with AIDS.

A Karpas.

Abstract

Cultured haemic cells from an AIDS patient were found to produce a morphologically new virus, not adult T-cell leukaemia virus (ATLV). Sera from 35 promiscuous homosexuals, 10 with and 25 without AIDS, did not have antibodies to ATLV (HTLV), but the sera of 6 of those patients reacted with cultured cells from the AIDS patient.
