Computed tomography of the kidney.

J Struyven, J P Brion, N Frederic, C C Schulman.

Abstract

The application of computed tomography to the diagnosis of kidney disease and the features of renal neoplasms, cysts, hydronephrosis, inflammatory parenchymal lesions and other pathological processes are described. The diagnostic accuracy of computed tomography is excellent when compared with ultrasound and selective renal arteriography. This new non-invasive technique can obviate the need for arteriography in a significant number of morphological diseases of the kidney and is especially useful in defining the extent of malignant tumours.
