Abstract
Dextran has a well-documented antithrombotic effect that is due to a reduction in platelet adhesions, increased lysability of thrombi, and improved blood flow. Anaphylactoid reactions may occur during the first 30--50 ccm of dextran infusion. They have an incidence of 1:80000 during anesthesia. The main advantage of dextran prophylaxis is the lack of bleeding complications. It is extremely effective in lowering the incidence of lethal pulmonary embolisms.Entities:
