Pregnancy in a patient with porcine valve xenografts.

E M Beadle, R V Luepker, P P Williams.

Abstract

The course of pregnancy and successful vaginal delivery of a healthy infant in a 23-year-old woman with previous aortic and mitral valve replacement with porcine xenografts if presented. Unlike the management of pregnant patients with conventional mechanical prostheses, anti-coagulation may not be necessary with xenografts, particularly when there are no other thrombogenic conditions. Other management issues include congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, prophylaxis against subacute bacterial endocarditis, and expeditious labor and delivery.
