Abstract
Polyribosomes were absent in metaphase Chinese hamster cells and were reassembled after mitosis. This assembly correlated temporally with formation of nuclear membrane and decondensation of chromatin, accounted for a threefold increased rate of protein synthesis, and occurred independently of de novo RNA synthesis, that is, it utilized preexisting messenger RNA.Entities:
