Herbal remedies of the Maritime Indians.

R F Chandler, L Freeman, S N Hooper.

Abstract

Maritime Indians, in common with other aboriginal people, developed a variety of herbal remedies to use in treating illness. A review of the writings of early settlers and missionaries has resulted in a list of 128 local plants and the medical problems to which they were applied. Although the known composition of some of these plants indicates the value of their application, little is known to date about the others.
