Abstract
The article sets forth the basic principles for the control of the leishmaniases, which are for the most part diseases occurring in natural foci. The need for specially planned measures for leishmaniasis control is emphasized. Different measures are required in different regions according to the type of epidemic focus and the nature of the disease cycle. In view of the specificity of the biological interrelationships between leishmaniae and their invertebrate hosts, sandfly control is of paramount importance in the prophylaxis of the leishmaniases. In the USSR, it has been possible to clear completely foci of anthroponotic cutaneous leishmaniasis by the implementation of a series of special measures including measures to eradicate the causal agent (treatment of patients) and the vector of the infection.Entities:
