Effect of type and duration of anemia on placental weight and villous histology.

A Agboola.

Abstract

The effect of anemia during pregnancy on placental weight and villous histology has been studied in a group of Nigerian women. It has been shown that the weight of the placenta is not dependent on the type or duration of anemia that is present. Neither is there a correlation between these two aspects of anemia and the histological feature of villous fibrosis, which is an earmark of the placenta in anemia.
