Induction of avirulent variants in Erwinia stewartii by incubation at supraoptimal temperatures.

A Garibaldi, L N Gibbins.

Abstract

High temperatures (37 degrees C) induced non-pigmented, and (or) small colony variants in some Erwinia stewartii strains. The former differed from the parent strain serologically and in having lost virulence to Zea mays. The small colony variants retained phytopathogenicity.
