The background of some Canadian general practitioner-observers.

M C Livingston.

Abstract

This study reveals the background of some of those Canadian general practitioners who have contributed original work during the past two decades. Fifteen observers are noted. They have usually reached 40 years. They come from different backgrounds but usually have pursued further post-graduate study. They are located chiefly in smaller centres and are engaged in either solo or group practice. The paucity of work raises certain questions. The observers were asked why they attempted their study and what was their greatest difficulty in completing the project. Their replies reveal some of the opportunities and obstacles to research. Future opportunities for research are considered.
