Abstract
A temperature-sensitive mutant of Bacillus subtilis which has impaired ability to autolyze was isolated. The growth rate of mutant cells at high temperature can be increased by the addition of egg-white lysozyme or a B. subtilis autolysin. Experiments with this mutant show that lysis is essential for cell growth.Entities:
