The conquering hero quits: narcissistic factors in underachievement and failure.

H S Baker.

Abstract

In narcissistic individuals the grandiose self persists, making impossible demands for omnipotence. This often results in inability to tolerate any endeavor which requires sustained effort and repeated trial and error. Among narcissistic college students, academic failure frequently results. This dynamic applies to success neurosis in general. Treatment considerations are discussed.
