Abstract
Local anesthesia can be very useful in the first stage of labour when a general anesthetic cannot be given during this stage, and it is associated with reduced respiratory depression in the fetus. Paracervical block anesthesia is one such method of local anesthesia. Its successful use depends upon a proper technique, knowledge of the indications and contraindications, appropriate equipment and use of a long-acting anesthetic agent of low toxicity. A series of 90 cases of paracervical block are described in which the success rate was 90 to 95%.Entities:
