Abstract
We present a case of multiple myeloma with high values for total calcium. The case discussion focuses on the role of the laboratory in diagnosis and monitoring of multiple myeloma and on the causes of the associated hypercalcemia. We present evidence for calcium binding to the paraprotein as a cause for the "hypercalcemia" in this case and we document a difference in the results for total calcium among various methods when this patient's serum was analyzed.Entities:
