Abstract
An investigation of the reproductive performance of first parity sows is described. In a retrospective study it was found that the size of the second litter was significantly greater in those sows with a prolonged weaning to oestrus interval of more than 15 days. Deliberately delaying mating until at least 12 days after weaning produced a similar increase in second litter size. This improvement was not associated with an increase in ovulation rate.Mesh:
