"Periplasmic" location of a -lactamase specified either by a plasmid or a chromosomal gene in Escherichia coli.

N A Curtis, M H Richmond, R B Sykes.

Abstract

Type IIIa beta-lactamase (TEM beta-lactamase) was "periplasmic" in Escherichia coli K-12 regardless of whether its gene was chromosomal or carried on an R factor.
