Expressed emotion: a review.

L Kuipers.

Abstract

Expressed emotion refers to emotional aspects of speech for which ratings have been derived. In the relatives of discharged schizophrenic patients, these ratings are predictive of outcome suggesting the importance of social and family factors on the prognosis of schizophrenics living with their families. The development, measurement and current use of the concept are discussed.
