Poliomyelitis: epidemiology and prophylaxis. 3. Nationwide vaccination campaign with the help of lay volunteers.

W Koinange, J J Rogowski, D Metselaar.

Abstract

Virological surveillance of poliomyelitis was used for predicting an epidemic early in 1972. A nationwide immunization campaign was undertaken, lay volunteers helping health staff to give the vaccinations. The epidemic was curtailed. The organization, implementation, and achievements of the campaign are discussed.
