Non-operative management of splenic rupture.

K Solheim.

Abstract

A splenectomized patient is at a significant increased risk of serious infection. Consequently, it is mandatory to avoid splenectomy whenever possible. In selective trauma cases this is feasible, either by surgical repair of the ruptured spleen or by non-operative management. Nine typical cases of splenic rupture diagnosed by scintigraphy were successfully treated non-operatively.
