Abstract
The corneal haze which in the past often followed lens implantation was clearly decreased by applying one drop of a 1% solution of methylcellulose into the lens immediately prior to its insertion. It is surmised that by coating the lens in this way injury to the corneal endothelium is prevented. Methylcellulose caused little if any rise of intraocular pressure postoperatively.--The preparation of a sterile solution of methylcellulose is described in detail. Finally, it is important to stress that--in addition to applying methylcellulose--one should always attempt to work under an air bubble.Entities:
