Increased susceptibility of Neisseria gonorrhoea from a rural area.

D W Gump, P T Berry.

Abstract

The in vitro susceptibility of 18 to 24 isolates of Neisseria gonorrhoea were tested against 12 different antimicrobial agents. These isolates represent all of the gonococcal organisms which had been isolated by the bacteriology laboratory of the Vermont State Department of Health from 1 March to 31 July 1972 and originated from patients cultured in Vermont. These isolates were considerably more susceptible to penicillin G and tetracycline than are current isolates from elsewhere in the United States and Canada. Possible explanations for this difference are discussed.
