Morphologic evaluation of spermatozoa in different laboratories.

B Fredricsson.

Abstract

The principles of morphologic evaluation of human spermatozoa may vary from time to time and between different laboratories. These principles are reflected in the mean and standard deviation of the results obtained from analysis of samples delivered by all new patients. These figures and distribution diagrams based on the same data were collected from eight different scandinavian fertility laboratories. It is suggested that such data should be used to define the investigational profile of the laboratory in question and to check that inadvertent changes in the principles of evaluation do not develop. The data may also be used to calculate correction factors in order to facilitate the comparison of results when the patient has delivered samples to more than one laboratory.
