Schizophrenic patients and Schneiderian first-rank symptoms.

M Preiser, W Jeffrey.

Abstract

Differences between schizophrenic patients with Schneiderian first-rank symptoms (FRS) and those without FRS at the time of hospitalization indicated FRS were associated with behavior consistent with feelings of passivity and helplessness. The two groups responded equally well to treatment in a therapeutic community. Findings support the contention that FRS are not pathognomonic or prognostic in schizophrenia.
