Abstract
Transmission of the microsporidian Nosema kingi to offspring of Drosophila willistoni during copulation was investigated. Offspring from matings of infected females and non-infected males, infected males and non-infected females, and both infected females and males were parasitized with N. kingi. 28% of the offspring were infected when the parents mated immediately after exposure to the parasite. However, 43--93% of the offspring were infected with the microsporidian when copulation was delayed 2 weeks post-infection.Entities:
