Protein and energy requirements of young children living in the developing countries to allow for catch-up growth after infections.

R G Whitehead.

Abstract

Children who have lost weight because of infection or other causes of ill-health need to produce catch-up growth after the illness is over. This catch-up growth can be rapid and requires a higher minimum protein intake relative to energy intake than does normal growth. Suitable protein-energy ratios for catch-up growth have been calculated.
