Abstract
The neurons of the monkey basal nucleus of Meynert are shown to contain a protein indistinguishable from the chicken intestinal 28kd vitamin D-dependent calcium-binding protein (Calbindin-D 28k; CPB). CBP is thought to shuttle and buffer Ca++-ions, thus regulating the intracellular calcium distribution and concentration. Our observation may engender interest in searching for the role Vitamin D-metabolites, the CBP and calcium-ions in the physiology and pathology of nucleus basalis Meynert neurons.Entities:
