Abstract
Bacterial infections in the newborn are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Compared to older children, neonates are immuno-compromised hosts and clinical manifestations of infection are more subtle. Empiric therapy is mandatory when bacterial infection is suspected. Eight basic principles governing the use of antibiotics in the newborn are discussed.Entities:
