Epidemic ascariasis--evidence of transmission by imported vegetables.

S Räisänen, L Ruuskanen, S Nyman.

Abstract

This paper describes a local Ascaris lumbricoides epidemic with special reference to the factors giving rise to its breaking out. Ten of the 12 patients were children, and six patients were definitely diagnosed for Ascaris lumbricoides worms in their faeces in addition to worm eggs. The epidemic was probably due to imported vegetables and took place in the early winter 1982 and 1983.
