One-hundred-and-two 5-year survivors of esophageal carcinoma after resective surgery.

T Iizuka, H Kato, H Watanabe.

Abstract

Among 492 patients with esophageal carcinoma who received resective surgery, 102 survived over 5 years. These 5-year survivors were analyzed according to many factors. Females had a better prognosis than males, and patients without lymph-node metastasis had a better 5-year survival rate than those with it. Ten patients who survived over 5 years had recurrences and received therapy. As a cause of death after 5 years, double primary carcinoma of other organs is more frequent than recurrence.
