Abstract
An improved synthesis of norcocaine, a metabolite of cocaine, is reported. Following intravenous administration to a rhesus monkey, respiratory effects were similar to those observed following cocaine treatment. In addition, clonic convulsions, hypothermia, and mydriasis resulted. Norcocaine could be responsible for part of the pharmacological activity of cocaine.Entities:
