Abstract
Rabbit erythrocytes are lysed by cobra plasma. The membranes of the lysed rabbit erythrocytes exhibited typical ultrastructural complement lesions with an inner diameter of 72 A. Structures similar to human C5b-8 complexes were also visualized. The proteins found in membranes lysed by cobra plasma resembled closely the proteins of the human membrane attack complex in number and molecular weight. Cobra poly C9 that is resistant to reduction and boiling in SDS could also be demonstrated. These results indicate that the membrane attack complex of cobra complement is very similar to its mammalian counterpart.Entities:
