Heartwater challenge of two Cape buffalo (Syncerus caffer).

Abstract

Two fifth generation male Cape buffalo (Syncerus caffer) born in a European zoo, produced no signs of disease when injected with Cowdria ruminantium infected blood. It would suggest that this species has an inate natural resistance to Heartwater.
