Porous hydroxyapatite ceramics for use in neurosurgical practice.

Abstract

Hydroxyapatite ceramics have been increasingly used as an inert prosthetic material in the practice of reconstructive surgery and dentistry. However, the use of this material, which has excellent biostability and biocompatibility, has not yet been popular with most neurosurgeons. The purpose of this paper is to describe three kinds of prosthetic devices made of porous hydroxyapatite ceramics that we have found useful in neurosurgical practice.
