Abstract
Acid extracts of Tetrahymena pyriformis, a ciliated protozoan grown in defined medium revealed the presence of materials with salmon-type calcitonin immunoactivity. These findings add support to earlier reports of the presence of materials closely resembling vertebrate peptide hormones in unicellular microbes.Entities:
