Staged tendon reconstruction.

L H Schneider.

Abstract

Severely injured flexor tendon systems can be salvaged through the use of a staged procedure. At Stage 1, the system is rebuilt around a passive silicone rubber implant; at stage 2, the implant is replaced by a tendon graft. This procedure is a complex undertaking that challenges patients, surgeons, and therapists alike.
