Abstract
A small, double-blind crossover study compared the efficacy of aminophylline and doxapram in ventilator weaning of eight premature infants recovering from respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). Although neither drug was significantly better than the other, four infants were weaned from mechanical ventilation after drug administration. It is suggested that drugs stimulating the respiratory center may aid in shortening the duration of mechanical ventilation in premature infants recovering from RDS.Entities:
