Abstract
A case of conjunctivitis in a neonate caused by Gardnerella vaginalis is described. The diagnosis was confirmed by examination of a Gram-stained smear, isolation of the organism from the conjunctival swab, and also by response to treatment with chloramphenicol. The organism was probably derived from the mother's birth canal during delivery and the early rupture of membrane might be the predisposing factor.Entities:
