Abstract
The medical and demographic literature contain two popular formulae for the construction of cause-deleted life table lx values, one developed for applications in follow-up studies and the other for cross-sectional studies. It turns out that for both types of applications one of the two formulae is virtually always of better quality than the other. A formula developed by Keyfitz and Frauenthal is usually better than either.Mesh:
