Abstract
Bacteriophages G4ev1 and G4bs1 are simple temperature-resistant derivatives of wild-type G4 as demonstrated by restriction endonuclease analyses. The rate of replication of the duplex replicative-form DNA of these phages was normal in dnaB and dnaC mutants of the host, whereas the rate was markedly reduced in a dnaG host mutant at the restrictive temperature. We conclude that G4 duplex DNA replication requires the host cell dnaG protein, but not the dnaB and dnaC proteins. The reasons for the differences between our conclusions and those based on previously published data are documented and discussed.Entities:
