Reconstruction of soft-tissue defect of the posterior heel with a lateral calcaneal artery island flap.

R K Gang.

Abstract

We obtained most favorable results in 11 patients with a lateral calcaneal artery island flap. It is a simple, stable, sensate, and yet safe and versatile flap to repair defects around the ankle and heel. We have also used this flap to cover defects around the medial malleolus without any delay (extended lateral calcaneal artery island flap).
