Hip aspiration: verification of needle position by air arthrography.

A new method is described for verification of needle placement during hip aspiration or hip arthrography using suction air arthrography. The method is safe, rapid, reliable, and reproducible, and it eliminates problems with obscuring pathology by incorrect injection of dye or air, reactions to dye, or air embolism.
