Determination of the moment of inertia of limb segments by a simple method.

A J Peyton.

Abstract

A simple oscillation method to determine the moment of inertia of limb segments is described. The method involves coupling the limb segment to an elastic mechanical device. The resulting system has a lightly damped oscillatory response from which its resonant frequency can be measured and used to determine the moment of inertia of the limb. The method has been applied to the forearm and results produced compare favourably with those obtained by other methods.
