Acute rhabdomyolysis following surgery for burns. Possible role of tourniquet ischaemia.

P M Pfeifer.

Abstract

A case is reported of acute rhabdomyolytic renal failure following surgery for minor superficial skin burns. Rhabdomyolysis apparently started peri-operatively. Possible initiating causes are discussed, notably tourniquet ischaemia. The pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment are reviewed.
