Abstract
The first documented human case of visceral leishmaniasis caused by L. mexicana amazonensis is reported. Leishmania were isolated from bone marrow aspirate material from a typical visceral leishmaniasis patient. Further characterization by isoenzyme electrophoresis and by a panel of species- and subspecies-specific monoclonal antibodies established its classification as L. m. amazonensis.Entities:
