Mediastinal abscess with Capnocytophaga spp. in a competent host.

C B Mosher, R Corp.

Abstract

A 51-year-old woman presented with a rapidly evolving pneumonitis complicated by the development of an anterior mediastinal abscess. Upon surgical drainage, Capnocytophaga spp. was the sole organism identified. This organism has been implicated in sepsis among immunocompromised hosts but has not previously been reported in this clinical setting.
