[Effect of pentagastrin on the myoelectric activity of the pyloric sphincter, body of the stomach and the duodenum].

K A Shemerovskiĭ, V I Ovsiannikov.

Abstract

In chronic experiments on rabbits, i.v. administration of the pentagastrin (0.01-1.0 micrograms/kg) exerted inhibitory effects on the myoelectrical activity of the pylorus and stomach, whereas the effect of pentagastrin on the duodenum was rather activating. The threshold dose of pentagastrin for pylorus was 5 times smaller than for the duodenum and 10 times smaller than for the stomach. Possible mechanisms of the pentagastrin effect on the contractile activity of the pylorus, stomach and duodenum smooth muscles, are discussed.
