Abstract
Eight years after the onset of bronchial asthma a 28-year-old woman fell ill with abdominal pain, diarrhoea and rapidly increasing ascites. Increased numbers of eosinophils in the protein-rich ascitic fluid and histologically demonstrated eosinophilic infiltration of the intestinal mucosa, together with the history and symptoms, established the diagnosis of eosinophilic gastroenteritis. The disease proved self-limiting without specific treatment. Within four years of first manifestations there were two short recurrences with rapid regression without specific treatment.Entities:
