[The formation of dental plaque in relation to the ingestion of food].

H G Schneider, G Knieknecht.

Abstract

The formation of dental plaque during the consume of hard, normal and soft diet was examined on 100 children (4-6 years old) per diet group. No tooth-brushing was done during the test for two days. The average of plaque-index (by Quigley and Hein) after two days was 2.52 on hard diet, 2.69 on normal diet and 2.93 on soft diet. The differences are significant (t-test by Student, p = 0.01). The effect of physiological self-cleaning of oral cavity by diet is discussed.
