Abstract
Dercum's disease consists of multiple, painful lipomata and occurs in obese, postmenopausal women. A 52-year-old obese woman complained of multiple painful "lumps" in the extremities. The diagnosis of Dercum's disease (adiposis dolorosa) was established by excisional biopsy of four tumors. There is no effective treatment for this condition. Surgical excision, in this case, relieved the patient's symptoms locally, but after one year the painful lipomata had appeared at other sites. Case reports of this condition were not found in a review of the orthopedic literature.Entities:
